the architectural ruin in art
Friday 4 May at 11.00am
Join Dr Colin Holden, guest curator of In search of the picturesque - the architectural ruin in art, for an introduction to the exhibition exploring the various approaches made by artists over centuries to the subject of ruins: from depictions of monumental ancient Roman ruins to modest Australian rural buildings. The exhibition has been enhanced by extensive research on 18th century Italian printmaker Giovanni Battista Piranesi, undertaken by Dr Holden in 2010 as the State Library of Victoria's Redmond Barry Fellow.
